Lana

Lana laid contentedly in Nick’s arms. He had pulled her close against him and practically enfolded her completely with his body. His even breathing was a soft concerto in her heart. She smiled when he began to snore. No matter what, she would never get tired of being next to him, even if his snoring got louder.

She wanted to stay awake all night and revel in the feeling of him holding her close. She didn’t want to miss a single second of it. Finally, though, her eyes were so heavy, and she fell asleep. She slept deeply that night, relaxed for the first time in a very long time.

Nick moving around, trying to untangle himself from her, woke Lana up. He was leaning over her, on one elbow, smiling. He gently pushed a lock of hair out of her face and kissed her forehead.

“You are so incredibly beautiful,” Nick said. “I hope I didn’t hurt you last night.”

Lana smiled up at him and said, “No. It was amazing. If I’d have known how great it was going to feel, I would have crashed your shower a long time ago.”

Nick laughed. “Don’t tell me I created a vixen who can’t get enough,” he said.

“No, I’m still a lion,” Lana retorted, changing the meaning of his word.

“Turkey,” he said.

“Nope, lion. I’ve heard that men never listen,” Lana said.

Nick laughed again. “As much as I would love spending the day in bed with you, we have goals to accomplish. Once all of this Dizag crap is taken care of and Lucy is safe, we’ll see what happens when we spend an entire day in bed together.”

“I like the way that sounds,” Lana said, smiling up at him.

Nick got dressed and headed out to the kitchen to start some coffee and breakfast.

Lana laid in bed for a few minutes longer, thinking about the night before. Then, she thought of Nick’s words. He obviously intended for them to have some kind of future together. Smiling, her heart fluttering, she rolled out of bed.

As she headed toward the bathroom, she noticed that she was feeling a bit sore. It was a nice soreness, though. She also noticed a bit of blood, but she knew that was because she had been a virgin.

Slipping on her jeans and a t-shirt, she brushed her hair and put it up into a bun on her head. Then, she joined Nick in the kitchen. He was in full swing of making breakfast.

“Can I help?” she asked.

“No way,” Nick said. “No offense, but I saw how you were trying to make coffee. I’ve got this. Why don’t you go sit down and relax for a bit?”

Lana grabbed a big glass of milk and headed out to the veranda. Nick would be able to hear her and come to her aid if she called out, so she felt safe enough.

She was astonished at how much she seemed to rely on him, now. Being an independent woman, hell bent on taking care of herself, she never thought that she would ever lean on someone.
